He ushers us not only into his passionate research of fifteen years but the grandeur of a forgotten era, and presents before us a completely new and unexplored facets of Kama in his debut novel and the rumoured bestseller.
Review-
The book starts with the picture of a warrior, with closed eyes, facing upwards. It can be partially called a picture book,as most of the chapters are illustrated using the pictures.Karan Vir is the protagonist of the book. My first thought after reading the protagonist's name and his description was- is this book an autobiography? After reading this book,we can't consider it as an autobiography as there is no hint as such in the whole book. Maybe, some hint would be provided by the author in the upcoming book of the trilogy.
The story goes on like this. Karan Vir has frequent dreams related to Karna, the eldest of Pandavas. We find him equally confused as we ourselves are after reading about the dreams. His dreams become a nightmare and it eventually starts overpowering him and his mind. He finds it very difficult to come out of it. In order to find the answers to all the unanswered questions,he visits India. And,this is how the rest of the story goes on.
Coming to the language of the book,it is simple and lucid. One will not need a high vocab to give this book a read. However, there are certain Sanskrit words, whose meaning needs ti be found out while reading the book. The good thing is that the reader is provided with a glossary at the end of the book to look for meanings. But I would have really appreciated if words ,whose meanings are provided at the end, were italicized. This would have made this book an easy read. It gets very irritating to look back and forth, again and again while reading the text.
The ending of the book seems clueless to me. Obviously, one needs to wait for the upcoming part to know the whole story, but I find this book incomplete. Incomplete in the sense of plot and structure. And,that leaves me clueless. However,I would suggest you to wait for the upcoming part. Maybe,it is a trick used by the author to keep his readers on track. So,if you haven't read about Karna, the legendary hero of Mahabharata ,or if you feel reading Mahabharata is a very boring task,go for this book. You will be acquainted with the Legend of Karna, without actually getting bored. Give it a try.

Book Review- Kansa by Prassant Kevin

Name of the Book- Kansa
Author- Prassant Kevin
Blurb-OVER A SPAN OF TEN YEARS, HE KILLED FORTY PREGNANT WOMEN AND THEN VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE. AFTER FIVE YEARS OF SILENCE, HE IS BACK AGAIN, SEEKING HIS NEXT VICTIM. ONLY ONE MAN CAN STOP HIM - PROFESSOR BLACK. Maher was found unconscious in the middle of the highway and later, in the hospital, she revealed that she had escaped from a killer's house. All the details and patterns matched the serial killer 'Kansa,' who had disappeared five years ago after murdering forty pregnant women. ACP Saargi Desai was assigned to the case. She appealed to her department to bring back Professor Black to help her catch the killer. The Professor, who had a haunting past that had kept him away from the world of crime and investigation for several years, was not willing to take on this case. But the ACP managed to convince him to get on board just for this one last time. Soon after agreeing to help, the Professor realized that for the first time in his life, he had met his match. As he dug deeper into the case, everything got dirtier, the stakes went higher, and nothing was what it seemed.
Review- 'Kansa' is the book one of 'The Killer trilogy' by Prassant Kevin. It was one of the most awaited crime thrillers of the year. The cover of the book introduces Professor Black to us, who is the most gripping character in the novel. He is the one, who reveals the real identity of Kansa at the end of the novel.
Saargi is yet another important character in the novel, who helps the Processor in unraveling the plot. She is an ACP at a very young age, and acts smartly throughout the novel. Her desires and emotions can be interpreted while giving this book a feminist reading. With the introduction of the character of Mira, whole notion of feminism is question. Is it necessary to be a good mother to live and enjoy life? Why is it that the whole responsibility of a child comes only to the mother and not to the father?
There will be a series of death followed by another twist, as one progresses with the story. There is a story within a story, and I like this technique used by the author. Twenty year old secret is discussed in the novel, and not even for a second I lost my interest. One of the best things about this novel is that it doesn't let its readers leavein between. It will keep one engrossed till the end.
Maher is the beginning of this story. She is the connecting thread between the twenty-year-old secret and the present mishappenings. She is an epitome of all those women, who do not give up on their life but struggles to live till the end. Sargi is also an epitome of a successful, strong and independent woman. This novel gives equal importance to both the male and female characters. Not only in a good sense, but also in a bad one. And, this is what makes it even more interesting. However, one will be very disappointed with the end. Not only because of the cruelty of Kansa, but also because of the unexpected gender role. The book ends by giving up the hint of upcoming plot, which is to be followed in the next book of the series. The language used is very simple and easy to interpret. One does not need to sit with a 500 pages long dictionary to interpret the meaning of this book. This book is a one time read. Trust me, you will not put this book down until and unless you find Kansa.

Name of the book- White Noise
Author- Shruti Upadhaya
Blurb-“There is another city right under our city and it comes up only when you and I are together. Only you and I know about it and only you and I get to experience it. It keeps itself hidden from the rest of the world. And that is where I live.” He said
“And what happens when you’re not with me?” She asked.
“I evaporate.” He smiled.
Review-
'He might have broken me but I burned him.' This made no sense to me in the beginning. But as I reached the end of the novel, I was dumbstruck. The unexpected had happened. While reading the first few chapters, I didn't get the slightest of hint that something like this would happen. It took me a few seconds to digest the ending. And the description at the cover made much sense after that. The description is so beautiful.Everything is to the point, nothing less and nothing more.
'White Noise' will leave you as clueless as the title itself seems to be. The book is divided into three parts- Me, her and him. There are seventy-one chapters in total, each one being very short. After reading this book, I can very much relate to the female protagonist. I feel like- her eyes and observations are my observations. Her sufferings are my sufferings. This is what made me cry every now and then. I could very well connect with her and her emotions. It is only at the end of the book, readers get to know the story from male protagonist's point of view. I would rather not call him a male protagonist, as it will contradict the whole notion of 'who is a male protagonist'.
This book doesn't present a typical Bollywood love story,as I expected it to present. I badly needed a read like this. And, it has entered into the category of 'best reads' in my review list. 'Every experience that leaves a mark on us-physically or emotionally, is worth nurturing.' Read this book, maybe you will end up relating to it even more. I do not recommend books, generally, but this time I cannot resist myself from recommending. This book is worth reading. Give it a read, you will not be disappointed.

Book Review- Decoding Luxe by Mahul Brahma

Name of the book- Decoding Luxe
Author- Mahul Brahma
Blurb-
Decoding Luxe explores various facets of luxury brands, taking a strategic, behavioural, historical, experiential, demographical, psychological, dynamic, mechanical and philosophical look at what constitutes luxe or dazzle. This book is a bible for all stakeholders of luxury brands owner, custodian, retailer, connoisseur as well as student helping them understand and formulate, with a historical perspective, an effective strategy for conceiving, positioning, placing, promoting and pricing these luxury products. It is all about finding the magic potion for a brand’s success with luxe in India, who always look for value-for-money or value for label.
Review-
As a reviewer, picking up this book seemed quite challenging for me. I have read a lot of non-fiction related to success, goals, positive attitude, and so on. But this was a whole new thing to read about. The title of the book itself is very unique. What caught my immediate attention was the name of Ratan N Tata. It didn't take me a minute to realize that I am going on a reading experience of something which I have never been to.
Have you ever gone to a luxury store and felt embarrassed because of the way you are treated or because of the price tags? 'Decoding Luxe' is an attempt by Mahul Brahma to describe this customer-owner relationship and the various levels at which it functions. The rich becomes even more rich and the poor strives to survive, it is the middle class which gets affected by any new introduction in the market.
'All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.'(As you like it, Shakespeare). Just like the seven ages of man, the author describes a luxury brand as a mere player, its acts being seven ages. And these seven roles are- the infant, the whining schoolboy, the lover, a soldier, the justice, into lean and slippered pantaloon and the second childishness. I like this comparison of man's seven ages with that of a luxury brand's seven ages. This conscious attempt of the author to compare two nonidentical things reflect out the creative nature of the text.
The language of the text is very simple yet it is difficult to apprehend. So many unknown terms and keywords made it bit difficult for me to understand certain extracts from the book. Maybe a reader having commerce background, will find this book an easy read. This book is a bible for all stakeholders of luxury brands who are very few, its target audience also being very less. All those who belong to the group of GIMC(Great Indian Middle Class), should read this book. It will erase out all the presumption related to luxury brands. Pick this book if you always look for value-for-money.

Book name- Hey Dad! Meet my Mom!

Blurb-
Right since childhood, the world in which we live teaches us to bury our 'bad' past somewhere deep inside us and just move on. So deep, that even we can't possibly dig it back out. What happens when a 10 year old child, who claims to be your future son, comes to you to help you find his mother, who's your perfect match? What happens when you eventually start doubting his intentions? What happens when a girl starts turning your dreams into nightmares? What happens when your 'future son' starts haunting you? What happens when your FUTURE starts bleeding into your PRESENT through your PAST? 'Hey Dad! Meet My Mom!!!' is nothing less than a roller coaster ride of mystery, love, comedy, fear and suspense. So make sure you don't forget to expect the unexpected!!
Review-
As any other traditional novel, this novel also begins with a prologue. It presents a vague idea of the plot in front of us. Two important characters - Roshni and Rishi are introduced to us. It is followed by a series of events, until Puneet meets another important female figure in the novel. Rishi, who claims to be Puneet's future son, guides Puneet to find a 'mom' for him. It is quite funny and interesting to see a son instruct his father to impress a girl. The plot takes a lot of twists and turns. At times, it will leave you clueless and confused. But, it is this state of confusion which will make this novel an interesting read.
As this book is written by two different authors, the first thing I did, while reading this book, was to check the writing style. It is very difficult to copy someone else's writing style, and it is even more difficult when the authors belong to two different genders. To my surprise, Leepi Agrawal and Sandeep Sharma didn't disappoint me. While reading this book, I found it very difficult to distinguish between the two different writing styles. It is indeed a great work done by the two writers.
For me, language and the art of presenting events play an important role. It keeps me involved in the novel. I would not deny that the novel loses its track in between, but overall it is an interesting read. It is not a typical Bollywood movie script, or a college level love story. It is much more than that. In this book, you will be served with many other good things like-mystery, comedy, fear, suspense and poetry. Poetry, in the beginning of some chapters, further adds to the beauty of this novel. It gives an ornamental touch to the book. So, if you are a poetry lover, you should go for this book.
'HDM3 is nothing less than a roller coaster ride of mystery, love, comedy, fear and suspense. ' What will be your reaction when you get to meet your ten-year old future son? How will you react? Well, I will not spoil the plot. So, if you want to know the life story of Puneet and his reaction after meeting his son, all you need to do is to grab a copy of this book and read it.

Book Review: Inside the Heart of Hope by Rishabh Puri
Book name- Inside the Heart of Hope
Author-Rishabh Puri
Blurb-
We’re all a little broken, and that’s okay.
Or is it? Rick has a medical condition that makes his life different from the rest. But unlike others around him, he sees this not as a curse, but as an opportunity to cherish life and all the bitter-sweet gifts it brings with it.
Amidst frequent visits to the doctor, multiple surgeries that risk his life being, and a life that meant surveillance all the time, Rick has to fight for himself each day. But he pulls through, thanks to his family and friend Jacob, who become his pillars of strength.
And then, at a time when he is least expecting it, and with someone he meets by accident – love happens. It’s a new feeling for his heart and he is scared to lose it.
Will Lisa really understand the goodness of his heart or just walk away?
Inside the Heart of Hope is a story of strong will, perseverance and optimism which will make you wonder if sky is really the limit.
Review-
'Inside the heart of hope' is about the hope to live life normally. This hope transforms the life of the main protagonist, Rick. Born in a well-to-do family, Rick has everything except freedom. He has a problem in his heart, which snatches away his freedom. Every day's restrictions make him realize that he is no more normal. He can't lead his life the way others lead. And, this leaves him shattered. He lives a life of uncertainty and multiple surgeries risk his very being. And, due to this reason we see his complete mental breakdown in the novel.
Unlike most of the people who give up even before trying, Rick doesn't give up. He fights for his life. He fights for his own existence, every day. Jacob, his best friend acts as his right hand in the novel. And, I really like the thing that the character of Jacob has been given one full chapter in the novel. He has been given his own narrative space in the novel to assert his identity as a friend, and as a character in the novel. I have read so many books. In some, narration is done in first person, while in some, it is in third person. But it is my first read where I find narration from two different characters. And, it does make the novel an interesting read.
There is a lot of ambiguity in the novel, like the role of religion. Mostly, the book contains Christian names. And, it does confuse me. The novel is a hundred and twenty pages long. I know one should never judge a story by its length. But I find this novel lacking things in terms of length. One would want to see the struggle in detail, but descriptions are very short. Also, I find Rick's love life going very easy. It seems like a fairy tale where everything is in favour of him. Only Lisa's father acts as an obstacle, which is also overcome at the end, thus allowing the two love-birds to become one forever.
Overall, I like the concept of the novel. The universal theme of 'when there is hope, anything is possible' revolves throughout the novel. I really liked the character of Rick, his strong determination, optimism and will to live. This book can act as a self-help guide to those suffering from some medical problem(s) in their life. Remember pain is real, so is hope. Just believe in yourself, because good things are coming.

The havoc ensues when Drishti gets abducted and Neil is framed for it. Gauri finds out some bitter truths and leaves Neil. But what really is the truth?
When facts finally surface, we will know how much these lives are Messed Up! But All for Love.
Review-
Majority of the problems in India happen because of CASTE. Caste difference is the major crux of the novel. But it is revealed only at the end of the novel. I would call the text manipulative as while reading the book, not even a single reader would have expected the entry of caste into the plot.
'Messed up! But All For Love ' is a tale of two lovers-Gauri and Neil, along with their mysterious set of friends- Tom, Jerry, James, Mehr, and Antriksha. While reading the description at the back cover, Tom and Jerry reminded me of the famous cartoon series -Tom and Jerry. It in a way made me read some random pages of the novel, to check if it is about the series. Funny, isn't it? If you also curious about knowing the same, then read the book.
The book begins with a prologue which in a way reveals the upcoming story. Only a reader needs to do is to reach that story. For me, first few chapters seemed quite boring. It is only the last few chapters which grabbed my attention and didn't let me stop reading. This is because romance fiction is not my taste. I am used to reading fantasy and live in the world of my imagination. So, this read proved to be quite challenging for me.
The story is narrated through Neil's mouth. We see him suffering throughout the novel, all because of his love for Gauri. Readers can connect through his words. For instance, I can connect very well through these lines -" there are rare moments in life when you can feel the world had laid down its burden on you. Those times can lead to distorted, disrupted and disillusioned patterns of brain functions. You begin to move away from the truth of life existence."
If romance fiction comes under your taste of reading, then you should definitely give this book a try. This book sets so many friendships, relationships and life goals that you will definitely want to live a life like Neil and his friends. But do not mess up, like Neil, even if it is for love. Trust your love, pray and the process of healing will take on its own.

Name of the Book-Let the Game begin
Author-Sandeep Sharma
Publisher-Inspire India
Blurb-
Two kingdoms, Chaturanga and Sarprakt, separated by a mystic mountain range are at war with each other since ages. Chaturanga, ruled by King Viratha, is soon bestowed with a dynamic heir, and the whole kingdom is drowned in rituals and festivity. On the other side, Sarprakt is executing a cruel conspiracy. King Viratha, crippled by the conspiracy, urges the mysterious man of the mountain to devise a method to recreate the conspiracy and that gave birth to ‘The Game of Chess’.
Serial killings shock the nation as the police are rendered clueless. The killer leaves behind a trail of chess pieces with a strange message. Random people are murdered. Connoisseurs of different fields – History, Chess and the Security forces – have united as the next intended victim is the most powerful person of the country. How is Chess involved in the whole scenario? How will they find a man who died 4000 years ago? Can a person defy the laws of nature? Does history really repeat itself? Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
Review-
'Chess was never just a Game. ' This catchy line in the cover itself reveals a lot about the plot of the novel. 'Let The Game Begin' is a story about two kingdoms -Chaturanga and Sarpakt. Let me start with the prologue first. It will totally leave you clueless. You won't make any sense of it until and unless you read the complete story. This can be interpreted as a technique used by the author to provoke his readers to continue reading this novel.
One will not find any male/female protagonist in the whole novel. Or you can say, all the characters share an equal worth in the novel. This makes the book even more interesting as it goes against the traditional norm of having one male and one female protagonist. The story starts with a murder set in the present time. Murder acts as a backbone of the whole story. The novel witnesses a series of murders henceforth. All the murders are linked to the rivalry between two kingdoms-Sarpakt and Chaturanga. These two kingdoms are believed to have existed around 4000 years ago.
There is a lot of digression in the story. This reminds me of another book. It is titled as 'The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy ' by Laurence Sterne. But the digressions can be linked back to the plot. Some may not like these digressions while some may enjoy them. One would have complained about the lack of female presence in the book, had the author not created the character of the female Prime Minister. Towards the end of the book, the whole notion of. gender politics is rotated. Equal importance is given to the female characters. This would act as an agent to tempt more and more female readers to read this book.
If you are used to get bored and disappointed by reading long chapters that seem to have no end, then here, Sandeep Sharma will not disappoint you. The longest chapter in this book is Chapter 25,which is just nine pages long. So, this book will not make you get bored. The language used is very simple and lucid. The target audience is the common man. This takes us back to the age of Romantic literature -the age of Wordsworth, Keats, Byron, Burns Coleridge and Shelley. So,if you are a Baahubali fan, go for this book. You will enjoy reading the story of Chaturanga kingdom as much as you enjoyed seeing the magnificence and glory of Maahismati kingdom.

Can a man speak for a WOMAN?
July 22, 2017
burkha, egalitarian, equality, gender, independence, man, restrictions, society, women
No comments
Indian society is a patriarchal society. There is no doubt in it. Women are still not safe in this country. We hear this every now and then. If you are a girl, you cannot roam around in the streets at night. Chances of getting molested and raped are maximum at night. If something happens, all the blame is put on the women. In some parts of the country, women are not even safe inside the house. They are bound to so many restrictions. In some families, the birth of a girl child is not even celebrated. And, in some places, they are killed before they get to see the world. Is it not ironic that we have got independence 70 years back, but are in the same place still ? Why is the condition of women same yet? Why are we so conservative even today?
In today's India, when we think of women, we cannot use cliche in describing her conditions. There are two clear-cut identities of women. One is enjoying all the rights as much as a man gets to enjoy. On the contrary, the other one is deprived of even the smallest of resources and is a major victim in the society. Many a times, these women who enjoy the rights are themselves the reason why the other category of women are not getting equal status in the society. Traditions and customs are imposed on a woman by another woman in most of the cases. It is a tradition for bride to leave her family after the marriage. Nobody questions this. From the very beginning, a girl is made well aware of the fact that one day she will have to leave her family. She cannot go against it and escape. If she tries to, society starts raising questions on her character . Everytime, it is the girl who is portrayed as a villain. Even if she is sexually harassed, society raises questions on her clothes, habits, friendship circle, etc. But believe me, I have heard of cases where a woman wearing 'burkha' or a child as small as 2 months, got raped. The problem exists is in our mentality and not in the women.
'All men are the same. ' We keep on hearing this statement very often. But what does the word 'same' signify here? For me, it is ambiguous. So, I do not believe in this philosophy at all. To understand the situation of women in India todat, we first need to understand the fact that not all men are the same. Also, not all women are the same. Here, I am in no way favouring men. I am well aware of the fact that more than half of the wrongdoings are done by men. The argument I am trying to out forward is- can a man speak for women?
Men can never understand what a women goes through in her life. Only the person who gets burned knows the pain of getting burned. The other person can only sympathise. In the same way, men can sympathise as well. In my view, they can speak for women, if they wish to. If we look back into history, many men have raised their voices against the evils done to the women. Raja Ram Mohan Roy is one of the prominent figures through which I can explain my point clearly. 'Sati' pratha was widely practiced in our country. Widow was burnt alive along with the dead body of her husband. What could be more cruel than this to a female body? Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the one who showed his concern for the need to abolish 'Sati'. Similarly, there are examples of many other men who fought for women's safety and rights.
As a women, all I want is equality in society. I do not crave for special rights. I crave for equality between men and women. And, if in this process men are also contributing, I do not find anything wrong in it. Obviously, everyone has his/her own share of opinions. People are free to disagree with me. Women have already been speaking and raising their voice against the social evils done to another woman. If the other half of the society, that is, the men, start speaking fir men, then India's dream of having an egalitarian society would be achieved at a much faster rate. The current need of the hour is that the citizens realize- all that
Depression does not 'discriminate '
Depression
'I am very depressed. '
'Ah, this is so depressing. '
We keep on hearing these statements everyday but a very few of us know what actually this term 'depression' means.
Depression is a serious illness which affects the brain.General misconception associated with depression is - it is similar to sadness. It is not an illness which only involves sadness, but it is more than that.
Life is all about ups and downs. But there are cetain traumatic moments, which leaves the person deranged. It not only affects him/her mentally, but also physically. But these events are not only the factors responsible for depression.
Genetic characteristics, hormonal changes are also responsible for it. How would you feel if you are very confident about doing something and in the very next second, that confidence fades away? How would you feel if you are happy at one moment and you feel sad at the very next moment, for no reason?
How would you feel if you lose interest in your family and friends, even if you want to be a part of them? These are some notions which direct the life of a depressed person.
Its very easy to say that, "Its all in the head. Stop thinking about it."But when a person himself/herself goes through this phase of illness, he/she gets to know what this demon is capable of doing.First let's make one thing clear, not all mental illnesses mean that the person is insane. The same goes with depression. So, one should stop calling a depressed person -mad. It is better to get diagnosed as early as possible because it requires medication. But anti-depressant is not only the treatment for depression. Its not that you are feeling low today, by taking an anti-depressant, you will feel high tomorrow. Depression can last for weeks, months, or even years. So, along with the prescribed medicines, therapy is considered for treatment.
The rate of depressed people committing suicide is high. It is necessary for family and friends to understand that no longer a person's mind is in his/her control. He/she might cry, scream, complain, all at the same time because he/she can no longer control it. So, love, care and support is needed. It is necessary for us to understand that talking about it is better than shying away. A person with mental illness does not want extra attention. What he/she wants is equality -equality in all spheres of life. Don't treat them like they are ill or different from others, and require extra attention. They don't need it. Treat them equally because depression does not discriminate. It can happen to you as well. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere.
