Blurb-
We’re all a little broken, and that’s okay.
Or is it? Rick has a medical condition that makes his life different from the rest. But unlike others around him, he sees this not as a curse, but as an opportunity to cherish life and all the bitter-sweet gifts it brings with it.
Amidst frequent visits to the doctor, multiple surgeries that risk his life being, and a life that meant surveillance all the time, Rick has to fight for himself each day. But he pulls through, thanks to his family and friend Jacob, who become his pillars of strength.
And then, at a time when he is least expecting it, and with someone he meets by accident – love happens. It’s a new feeling for his heart and he is scared to lose it.
Will Lisa really understand the goodness of his heart or just walk away?
Inside the Heart of Hope is a story of strong will, perseverance and optimism which will make you wonder if sky is really the limit.
Review-
'Inside the heart of hope' is about the hope to live life normally. This hope transforms the life of the main protagonist, Rick. Born in a well-to-do family, Rick has everything except freedom. He has a problem in his heart, which snatches away his freedom. Every day's restrictions make him realize that he is no more normal. He can't lead his life the way others lead. And, this leaves him shattered. He lives a life of uncertainty and multiple surgeries risk his very being. And, due to this reason we see his complete mental breakdown in the novel.
Unlike most of the people who give up even before trying, Rick doesn't give up. He fights for his life. He fights for his own existence, every day. Jacob, his best friend acts as his right hand in the novel. And, I really like the thing that the character of Jacob has been given one full chapter in the novel. He has been given his own narrative space in the novel to assert his identity as a friend, and as a character in the novel. I have read so many books. In some, narration is done in first person, while in some, it is in third person. But it is my first read where I find narration from two different characters. And, it does make the novel an interesting read.
There is a lot of ambiguity in the novel, like the role of religion. Mostly, the book contains Christian names. And, it does confuse me. The novel is a hundred and twenty pages long. I know one should never judge a story by its length. But I find this novel lacking things in terms of length. One would want to see the struggle in detail, but descriptions are very short. Also, I find Rick's love life going very easy. It seems like a fairy tale where everything is in favour of him. Only Lisa's father acts as an obstacle, which is also overcome at the end, thus allowing the two love-birds to become one forever.
Overall, I like the concept of the novel. The universal theme of 'when there is hope, anything is possible' revolves throughout the novel. I really liked the character of Rick, his strong determination, optimism and will to live. This book can act as a self-help guide to those suffering from some medical problem(s) in their life. Remember pain is real, so is hope. Just believe in yourself, because good things are coming.
My rating-3.8/5
